This concept has been circling in my thoughts for so long. This visual has grounded me again and again, always bringing me back home to Jesus.
If you follow Jesus, you’re adopted into God’s family. You’re part of the royal priesthood now. You have a home and a belonging in His Kingdom - a place filled with peace, joy, laughter, surrender, forgiveness, and wholeness. Yet so often, even though this is our reality, we slip out the door and head back to our own little kingdom where we rule. We call the shots. We recognize the familiar walls of our small kingdom. We believe the illusion that we are safe there, and we revert back to the old ways we learned growing up - ways of surviving in this world and protecting ourselves.
This illustration is meant to remind us where our true home is: to notice when we’ve left and gone back to our own kingdom, and then to turn back and return home.
That home will always welcome you back and there will always be a room for you. Yes, it’s a place of constant surrender, forgiveness, and dying to self - but it’s a far more beautiful way to live than whatever you’ve got going for yourself in your little shack.
